What to believe?

I have this away message on AIM and AOL that is a line from a Marilyn Manson song which goes "How can I believe in a god that doesn't exist. How can I believe in a world that doesn't give a shit." A friend of mine wrote to me and says that I am wrong to say I don't believe in a god because when something bad happens I say oh god and if I was to ever get shot I would be like oh god please help me. I haven't gotten the chance to tell this person but I hardly use the word god and if I ever get shot I think I would be saying Oh crap this hurts.
